Methamphetamine, what is it
Methamphetamine is a highly addictive stimulant that speeds up the messages to the brain, meth is sometimes referred to as “speed”. The problem being is that meth is highly addictive, and the users become tolerant to its effects quickly thus causing the need for more and more to be used to get the same “high”

Meth, Ice, crystal meth, pure, crank, whiz and the list can go on.
The Problem with Meth.
The problem with meth is that it is not an organic substance, it is created purely from chemicals that on their own can be extremely harmful when exposed to them. Here is a list of some of the chemicals known to be used in the manufacture of methamphetamine.
Acetone, Toluene, Ammonia, Hydriodic Acid, Hydrogen Chloride, Phosphine, Sodium Hydroxide, Iodine, Red Phosphorous, Pseudoephedrine, Lithium and the list goes on.
Damage To Homes
The main damage to any structure is through the use of methamphetamines,
Australians are the highest users per capita in the western world. When the chemicals used to manufacture meth become airborne, they create a toxic cocktail. They are then easily absorbed into soft furnishings such as carpets, curtains and furniture, but they also settle on hard surfaces.
Health Issues
The “safe” level, which in Australia is 0.5µg /100cm 2 .
So some of the health issues detected have been behavioural, breathing, eye and skin irritations, sleeping disorders and attention issues. Please be aware though that suffering from any of these symptoms is not a guarantee that you are living in a
methamphetamine contaminated home.
Testing
So there are three forms of testing properties, it is best to contact us so that we can discuss the issues with the home and what test would best suit your needs.
There is a presumptive screen test, this is set at 0.5µg/100cm 2 and will give a positive or negative result on site.
The Field Composite test that takes up to a maximum of five samples, places them all into a sample tube and sent to a NATA approved lab. They take a reading from the accumulated sample and send us the results, this method does have its issues which we are happy to discuss at the time.
The Laboratory Composite test is the most popular. Up to ten samples are taken, all individually stored in sample tubes and sent to a NATA approved lab. Again the samples are tested together but if a positive result is found we can request individual testing of some or all of the samples. The advantage of this test is that we don’t have to return to the property to take more samples, and the lab will be able to determine which room is contaminated.
Please also be aware at the time of testing we will be wearing full protective overalls and a respirator mask and gloves, the gloves are changed between each sample to prevent cross contamination.
